Hello all! Sorry for the late post this time. Our weekends have been packed with day trips and sightseeing, leaving very little time for post-writing. During our second week at Vallis Veg, we found ourselves growing increasingly comfortable. Work has been fun and varied, which we mentioned in our other post about Vallis. We did a lot more woodwork this week, since Cordelia wants to build a new compost toilet that's connected to the house.

Two weekends ago, we took an hour-long walk from Frome to Nunney Castle, a 900 year old castle built by John De La Mare. The castle is now in ruins, thanks to the damage it attained during the English Civil War. But almost all of the outer walls of the castle still stand, giving us a great glimpse of its inner three floors.

Also, entry to the site is free. Obviously the best part.

After Nunney Castle, we stopped to look at a charming little church, also connected to Sir John De La Mare:

The next weekend--our final weekend at Vallis--we took a day trip to Bath and Stonehenge. We saw the Bath Abbey (also free entry) and the Roman Baths next door. The Bath Abbey was stunning, both inside and outside.

The Roman Baths were more expensive to enter but the museum inside made it worth it. I stuck my hand in the warm bath water (which is not allowed, I shortly found out). Wasn't the cleanest. Would not bathe in it. But very pretty, especially with the Bath Abbey in the background.

Sadly, we had to rush a bit to get to our Stonehenge bus, but I could easily see us spending the entire afternoon at the Roman Baths. It was so interesting! Apparently it's one of the best preserved ancient sites in Britain. And it wasn't just a place to bathe, but also a cultural and religious center as well.

Stonehenge is about an hour away from Bath. We got to spend two whole hours at the site, which sounds like a lot for looking at a circle of rocks but the new exhibition center kept us busy. We saw the stones in the heavy wind and rain, then huddled back inside for tea and souvenirs.

I can check that off my bucket list now!

The next day, we said goodbye to Chris, Cordelia, Alexandra, and Vallis Veg, and headed back to Pitt Farm (our first farm). Kate kindly agreed to let us return for a week, since our third farm said that they could only take us for a week. We were sad to leave Vallis, but happy to return to Pitt.

That's a summary of our last two weeks. See you next time!
